How Do Auditions Work?

At Christian Performance Theatre (CPT), auditions are an open casting call; nothing is precast. Any student 8-18 enrolled in classes is eligible to audition. We ask that each student prepares a 1 minute song with either karaoke/backing track or bring your own accompanist. Music must not include vocals. iTunes sells many options.

Students will start the process by performing their song one at time within their group (time slot). This is an open audition time where we all support each other and cheer one another on. Then students will go to choreography in a closed session. The audition dance video will be made available to auditioners a week before auditions. Students should learn it and come ready to perform on audition night.

If the directing team wishes to see your child for a specific role, they will be called back during the designated callback times. You can see if your child is called back by checking your MyCPT account. Audition sign-ups are through your MyCPT account also.

What Do I Need For My Audition?

Students must bring the following and arrive at least 30 minutes before their audition time slot. The show Production Manual with all forms is located on the "Audition Information" page.

  1. Audition Form
  2. Costume Information Sheet
  3. Parent Committee Form
  4. A Current Photo

How Do I Sign Up For An Audition?

When you register for a class, the link to registering for auditions will become available to you in your MyCPT account. Simply login and click "view confirmation" next to your student's name.  You'll find the sign-up link in the class confirmation.

Do I Have to Sing and Dance for My Audition?

Yes! All students sing and dance at CPT auditions.

Where Is the Audition Dance Video Posted?

The audition dance video will be posted on your class confirmation one week before auditions. You must be logged into your family account to access.

May I Watch My Child's Audition

Yes, CPT holds open auditions, which means that anyone can watch. We ask that all spectators be seated, be quiet and be respectful of those auditioning. No one may go in/out of the door until an entire group is finished. Students who are auditioning may NOT watch until after their audition time slot.

Callbacks are a closed procedure. Parents will drop their child off and pick them up at the designated time. You are not allowed to wait inside the church.

May I Record My Child's Audition?

You may certainly videotape your child's audition, though you may not record other children in your child's group.

Callbacks - What if I Did/Did Not Receive One?

Directors often "callback" a student because they need to gather more information from them regarding their acting, singing, dancing, interaction with others or behavior. If a student receives a callback, they should be prepared to act, sing and dance. Receiving a callback does not guarantee casting in a particular show. Likewise, not receiving a callback does not mean that they will not be cast.

Do Scheduling Conflicts Affect Casting?

The directing team needs to know what rehearsals you will be missing. It is imperative that they have this information on the audition form. Absences that come up after casting will not be excused. There is no “magic number” of excused absences that will make or break getting cast, however, having more than 3 conflicts may affect casting. The more absences you have the more difficult chances of getting cast become.
